I downloaded Nero-9 from 2 different locations, but upon closer examination, it looks like both files are exactly the same. When I try to install, it goes upto 2%, and then shows an error, and something about a "rollback", the installation fails. I figure part of the problem lies in scraps of previous Nero on my system, which I have been unable to clean even with the Clean Tool which woooops so kindly provided.

Where do I go from here? Any feedback would be welcome.

Sounds like a windows installer problem to be honest.

It means at some point something has blocked registry access to the installer, usually, which makes installing, unionstalling and generally repairing totally fail.

Common products that cause this are Webroot spysweeper, windows defender, and bit defender.

Delete the folder, remove the install entries from the registry.

reboot twice, and install from scratch. Also make sure to until the ASK toolbar cause some avs will corrupt the install when detecting that mallware.

Thanks Xtreame96, I figure it might have been BitDefender, which I had tried for a while. But certain things I couldn't follow, so if you will explain please:
1. Delete the folder - WHICH folder? Nero? There isn't any visible.
2. Remove the install entries from the registry - scares me! I might end messing things up. No other way, or do I call in a pro?
3. Didn't get the bit about ASK toolbar.

Sure thing mate,

1. Anything in program files called AHEAD or Nero.

2. Hkey local machine\software\ahead\

Ok Nero installs a piece of malware called the ASK toolbar some anti viruses get pissed off about that and then block some of the install settings for it.

Vista manager also has an uninstaller that might help you remobe it. Smart Uninstaller I think its called.
