I have already downloaded a file posted by snavest and I can't open it because I don't know the password.
I've searched the forum, but I am unable to find the answer.

If you downloaded the file from this forum then you need to give the exact thread of the download.

It could be one of millions of files for all we know.

Interesting that you managed to download with a post count below 10 normally the thanks button does not appear to those with a low post count.

yea and usually they post the pw underneath the files posted, well if u can not find the post then i suggest doing a earch for the files u downloaded on here, and if u still can't find it i only have one more suggestion if its only one file u can try and download winrar password cracker but if its more then one file ur screwed might as well delete the files or send him a pm and hopefully he responds

yes, best bet is to PM the poster "snavest" and ask them for the password.

Note I just did a search for the user "snavest" and there is nobody registered here by that user name. So I doubt that you got anything from here.....with the one post count like was pointed out earlier and with the user name that you say you downloaded the file from not existing here I think you are mistaken and not being honest with us.

Well sometimes, if you double click the archive, a window will open containing the file/s of the said archive,the password to the archive,the author's name...etc.

With WinRar, if you don't have the password and aren't able to guess it, you aren't going to be able to decompress the archive. It uses a sophisticated encryption system and cracking passwords gets exponentially harder with each added character. Password crackers are a waste of time because they simply don't work.

That said, there are ways around it. First you should go back to where you got the files from and check for the password there (internet history is especially useful for this). If you can't find it or it isn't listed you still have options. Do a google search for the exact name of the file, you'll often find another place it is listed where the password may also be included. If not, the last option is to guess. Best guesses are the name of the user who uploaded it, the site it was uploaded to, the name of the contents of the archive, or the literal name of the archive file.

If none of these work, you're best option is to delete the archive you have and find another. There's almost nothing that is only uploaded once.
