What is the difference between HTTP and FTP. I have seen links on a lot of sites that give an address beginning with FTP. Ive had no luck whatever in getting on to any of them. The only address that I have any luck with are all HTTP. Not being that savvy I am curious to know what the difference is. Pardon my ignorance...Bob

FTP means file transfer protocol, it is how a web designer would upload files to a web server.

Basically is a a method of putting or getting files on a server.

FTP servers are usually only live for a few days to a week if your lucky.

But if you do get a server that is live and your using a decent FTP client like cuteFTP, then you can grab whole folders etc.

Its a very cool way to get stuff, but its very old school.
I miss the days of good 0 day ftps.

The besty way to describe it is imagine you clicked on MY computer and got a window that looked like that, except you would be browsing someones entire drive.

Like all their mp3s, games, installs etc.

When you do find a decent FTP its like being given a free pass in a toy shop to take anything you want.
