Default PTC pro engineer installation help!!!

Hi to all, I dl the program PTC pro/engineer wildfire 4.0 and tried to install it but Im having some issues. First If I try to install pro/mechanica which is disable with a red X the set up crashes. So I installed pro engineer without pro/mechanica and aparently everything went ok, But when I run the program and go to the file, edit tab on top the program closes without any warnings making it unusable.

Could anyone help me here to see whats wrong?, Thanks in advance!

It sounds like the install if corrupt or missing files.

Make sure your ainti virus is not interfearing with the installation process, if your running vista make sure you run the setup as administrator.

Also try running the application in Windows xp compatiblity mode.

Try getting a different version of the application, it could simply be an incomplete installer.

Look for error messages they are usually relevant and point to the exact problem.

Check the installation log most installers have them.

Hi Xtreame96, Well I have 3 different versions of the program, one with 5 cds and 2 with 3 cds. All versions do the same. I have not tried to install without avast being on, Ill try that one in a bit. There are no error messages as the program closes automatically after I move the cursor to the file bar on top.

I see there are other versions here, could you point me to one version you know works?? Thanks in advance!

Give me some more information.

Specifically what OS your running, and what service pack level.

What Graphics card your using and what driver version you are running.

Also if your running some form of crippled os like a Tiny or gamer edition because those often miss the Dot Net libraries needed run certain applications.

It sounds like moving over file causes a cutoms draw of a menu from a control UI widget, do you have dot net 1, 1.1, 2, 3 , 3.5 and all SPs? (please note that these are not upgrades to older versions each is a feature platform in its own right and are not related)

Also make sure your running a supported graphics card, ATI or Nvida, none of the other chipsets work correctly.

Ok, Make sure you have the latest version of Nvidia's forceware installed.

Then make sure you have all versions of dot net and their relevant service packs.

Making sure you have all windows updates will help greatly too.

Once you have got the latest Nvidia package installed, reboot and do a DX diag make sure everything is ok with your card and its drivers.

Also bare in mind PTC PROE 5 is known to crash 3-5 times a day in most cases, its very tempramental, in fact I have only seen it run bug free on Vista x64.

This is more or less the common state of Pro E on 32 bit:

Well im trying to install version 4.0, since I didnt knew version 5.0 was out there, I recently installed the latest drivers for the card. Tho this Nvidia card is a bit old.

I find it very strange that none of the components in the setup that have a red X cant be changed to install since the setup crashes. And if one installs just Pro engineer alone then it opens but if one moves the mouse cursor to the file tab the program closes without warnings. Could all the 3 versions of the setup be corrupted??

It depends on the file - you could very well have 3 versions of the same file.

Download the demo from PTC if that installs and works fine, then you know the problem is with the file.

If it also fails then you know your hardware is not suitable.

Well looking at the log that gets created once the setup is launched I see that many lines have "failed" on them, So maybe my system is not suitable...

Very possible Pro Eng expects allot out of the graphics cards, try the Same setup on a better pc see if it yields the same errors.
