Default whats the best video splitter

i've tried several programs to split avi, mpg, and wmv...

some work on some types of them, others can split
the file, but mess up the audio..

i've tried easy video splitter, but it doesn't work too well..

i've tried free programs like virtual dub, but you have to
redo the audio most of the times, and that doesn't sync up..

any other ideas, i've tried a lot of them...but most of them
crash or can't read the files properly...(i'm using windows xp)...

Default PowerDirector 7

Hi, i have been searching for the same thing, mainly because i have a bunch of large videos from different formats that i want to cut or trim for just a small part, and i have also tried several software and endep up using cyberlink power director 7. Just drag the file to the media gallery, drag it to the video track below and then use Trim or Multi Trim functions, and produce to desired output. im finding i cant go wrong with it now, audio stays in sync and have had no problem or boring so far

Ok, Well audio sync becoming out of sync usually leads to a codec problem, since the audio encoding would be done by codec. Bad Codec Packs usually cause this.

Just alter your econding properties. That should usually fix it.

Next on the subject of cutting videos into smaller pieces.

Assuming your video is already correct - EG AUDIO INSYNC and working properly before you mess with it.

Premiere or After Effects, both would have no problem cutting the film into smaller peices. With out any problems or shifts in time sync between audio and video.

In theory Virtua Dub should not be having a problem either, I use the x64 bit version often.

The OS you use will not contribue to problem in any way. Essentially when video and audio are rendred it si simply a matter of taking each stream and rendering them accurately at the frame rate required. This is achieved by using each in a codec based on that codecs settings and throwing them in a generic container such as AVI.

(MAKE SURE OF YOUR INPUT AND OUTPUT FRAME RATES IF YOU WISH TO STAY IN SYNC EVEN A 0.0001 VARIATION OVER 100 SECONDS WILL PUSH VOICE WAY OUT)

A good splitting tool for MPEG2 (DVD) streams is "Video ReDo"
i used it to split & cut my VHS collection when I converted it to DVD...
Also Xillsoft offers a lot of good tools. I use Xillsoft Ultimate Video Converter - here you can cut/split AND convert your videos into a more handy format. They also offer presets for ipod or psp....

Cheers

I think your main problem lies in the dvd-rip itself. There are many rippers which used inproper VBR audio encodes which can't be cut by any splitter.
So you always have to reencode/convert the VBR-audio to CBR to have proper sync audio in your splitted files.
So you have to use programs like Virtual Dub (etc) to seperate the audio from the video stream. Just reencode the audio to a CBR-Mp3 file and then rejoin the seperated (direct stream copy video file) video file with you new CBR audio file.
After the conversion you can split your new movie with any video splitter.
I am using the video splitter of boilsoft for years now and never had problems after the mentioned reencoded audio procedure.
Good luck Negative1 for your conversion.
