A few decades after the conquest and plundering of the Inca Empire by Spain, natives invented the legend of El Dorado in the headwaters of the Amazon,
(El Dorado is a mythical City of Gold invented by the Incas.)
In 1560 a Spanish expedition leaves the high mountains of Peru in search of gold and wealth and travel down the unexplored Amazon river to discover El Dorado. Soon, they come across great difficulties and Don Aguirre, a ruthless man who cares only about riches, becomes their leader. But will his quest lead them to "the golden city", or to certain destruction?
As the film opens a narrator informs us that it is the 25th of December. The expedition has just passed the final peak of the Andes Mountains and is afforded its first glimpse at the jungle. We see hundreds descending into the Amazonian jungle- Spaniards in full armor, ladies in courtly dress, a monk, and hundreds of enslaved Indians carrying food, cannons, sedans and other supplies. The expedition reaches the bottom of the mountains. While many rest, Don Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski) and Gonzalo Pizarro (Alejando Repules) stand looking at the river and discuss what faces them.

This is the story of the fated expedition based on the surviving diary of the monk Gaspar de Carvajal. A journey into despair & the heart of darkness.

Apparently the above links that make a DivX version will give an error message of
invalid or corrupt authenticity information while unzipping,
just let all the files continue to unzip without any interruptions & when finished
will make a DivX file that will play without any problems.

I myself am not pleased with the visual quality of this DivX, it could be just a bit better,
& I prefer to have more control over sub titles, so I am including my own 2 CD version
of the movie in XviD, below are the links.

I have added XviD version
some people (elsewhere) were complaining about the DivX
having English subs hard-coded.
