INSTALLATION NOTES

If you have a non-working copy (updates don't work or license verification is required) of Norton 2006, then you must do a complete uninstallation of the app.

1. Uninstall norton system works
2. After uninstalling norton, uninstall norton live update
3. Delete the folder w/c contains the norton files
a. C:\Program Files\Symantec, and
b. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
c. Subfolders/files w/c are associtaed with Symantec located in C: \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data

4. Delete norton registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SYMANTEC
OR
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\SYMANTEC

5. Reboot PC

For those who will have a fresh install please follow these steps.

1. Use the serial number:
WX4828KYGTBWKR9TY9Q4T92GT
or change the digits inside the brackets and make your own serial:
WX482-8KYGT-BWKR9-(T)Y9Q4-(T)92GT

2. Install by using one of the above serials.

3. Keep going on until you reach activation by phone.

4. Put zeros in all the blocks,
but you have to change the last 3 numbers from the last block to any number betwen 111 and 999. I suggest using 150

Configure norton update->Choose to update only the virus definitions.

NOTES: If you still have problems with the updates/subscription. try this:

1. Boot your PC in safe mode. (By pressing F8 while the windows boot screen loads and then choosing safemode in the menu.

2. Find where isste.dll or SymUIHlp.dll is located. For instance, it is located in this folder:
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Norton Internet Security\

Go to dos:
1. Start->Run->type cmd press enter
2. type this in the console.

attrib -r -s -h C:\Program Files\Symantec\Norton Internet Security\isste.dll

attrib -r -s -h C:\Program Files\Symantec\Norton Internet Security\SymUIHlp.dll

cd C:\Program Files\Symantec\Norton Internet Security\

rename isste.dll isste.dl_
rename SymUIHlp.dll SymUIHlp.dl_

exit

3. Insert the Norton CD1 or locate the Norton installation files.

4. search for the files isste.dll and SymUIHlp.dll from the CD or the installer. Remember to enable viewing of hidden files in the windows explorer

5. copy these two files to C:\Program Files\Symantec\Norton Internet
Security\

6. Reboot
